Beat Radio Covers Best Coast - "When Im With You"

Everybody loves Best Coast. Especially the west coast, which is the best coast. That is why we should all go see them play with Sonny and the Sunsets in late october. Beat Radio also loves Best Coast. The Cover Lovers recently posted their cover of the fantastic "When Im With You" and its really good. Definitely worth a listen. If you like that one, Beat Radio also have a couple of albums on their bandcamp (the Ratatat meets analog drums "Golden Age" is recommended).

Seapony - Free EP

In the endless stream of internet iteration, Seattle's own Seapony craft their own version of beach/dream pop that is like a mix of Twin Sister's pop sensibilities and Best Coast's melodies (the song "With You" even pawns Best Coast's line 'when im with you'). Their four songs are each infectious in their own way without being too repetitive. Can't wait for more! Get the free, self-titled debut EP at (where else?) bandcamp. Its worth it.

The Buzz Box #10

The Buzz Box is a weekly post where we review our favorite "buzz" songs from the blogosphere. This week we hear a great new track from of Montreal's upcoming album False Priest. Also featured is a new song from Best Coast as we countdown to their album release later this month. And don't miss the collaboration between The Dirty Projectors and Bjork.

of Montreal :: Coquet Coquette
tooth ache. :: Skin
Best Coast :: Boyfriend
Dirty Projectors + Bjork :: All We Are
Frankie Rose and the Outs :: Little Brown Haired Girls
The Jameses :: The Haunted Rider
Light Pollution :: Good Feelings

Also there is this great video from The Books that accompanied their live performance of the song "A Cold Freezin' Night" a couple months ago at the Triple Door. The Way Out will be out later this month.

Beach Combers - Two Songs

Beach Combers make fun guitar music with infectious vocal melodies and well placed harmonies. Sounds somewhat like Best Coast (there is a cover of "When I'm With You" on the myspace) mixed with Kimya Dawson and a little Mountain Man thrown in (especially on "The Whole World") and recored straight onto a cassette.

Eternal Summers

The immortal GvB just reminded me about a band I have been meaning to write about, Eternal Summers. They hail from Roanoke, Va. and their myspace says they play "dream punk," which is about right. Think Best Coast, Vivian Girls-type girl-led rock music. Eternal Summers also have the capacity for heartbreaking melodies and light harmonies in short, two minute bursts. With an Ep and a (free) single under their belt, look out for their full length "Silver" in mid to late September. For now enjoy the new song, "Pure Affection".

Fall Straight Back - Highly Recommended!

The Buzz Box #2

This week on the second installment of The Buzz Box we hear a comeback from Wolf Parade who will be releasing a follow-up to their rather poorly received At Mount Zoomer. Also on the list are a few great tracks (that I will probably get in trouble for posting / grab them while you can) from Ratatat and Here We Go Magic.
And lets not forget GAUNTLET HAIR.

Gauntlet Hair :: I Was Thinking...
Wolf Parade :: Ghost Pressure
Sunglasses :: Whiplash
Here We Go Magic :: Land of Feeling
Ratatat :: Sunblocks
Memoryhouse :: Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Best Coast :: Our Deal

Unreleased Hendrix Footage and Music

Left Coast Lefty Gets New DVD
The Guardian reported today that a "reality TV" style DVD of Jimi Hendrix will soon be released, according to Hendrix's sister. The footage, dating from around (the pinnacle of American awesomism) 1969, reportedly displays Hendrix offstage, at home, backstage and just "hanging out."
The film is to be distributed by Universal Music Publishing Group along with "at least two albums this year, and a Jimi Hendrix Experience concert DVD of the band's Royal Albert Hall gig in February 1969."
Having grown up just a three miles from Hendrix's grave, I personally would really like to get my hands on all of this goodness. It's really a tragedy that he wont be playing at Woodstock '09.

Elsewhere in Hendrix-land, NME reports that "an unreleased tape of 14 acoustic songs played by Hendrix is expected to sell for between £50 000 and £100 000 when it is auctioned this April." The tape consists of songs from Hendrix's 1968 album Electric Ladyland and is to be auctioned on April 28th via The Fame Bureau. The best part of this though, is that apparently in a noble display of bartering art for goods, "Hendrix himself gave the tape to his neighbour, Carl Niekirk, as a thank you for lending him some milk and sugar." Google says £50 000 is about $73,000. In these ridiculous economic times, that is certainly not a bad return on a cup of sugar.

This sounds...how you say?..."far out"
